Whether you have a puppy learning foundational skills or an adult dog working through behavioral issues, Off Leash K9 Training of Syracuse offers a focused approach based on your dog’s age, temperament, and training goals.

Private lessons and board and train programs give Syracuse families options for addressing specific training goals through structured instruction. From basic obedience to advanced off-leash work, programs are designed to help dogs and owners build clearer communication, better manners, and stronger follow-through with continued practice at home.

WHY PRIVATE DOG TRAINING IS GREAT FOR YOUR DOG

Private dog training gives dogs and owners a more personalized way to build obedience, confidence, and better behavior. Unlike group classes, private lessons focus entirely on your dog’s temperament, learning style, and behavior goals. For families in Syracuse and surrounding communities, this one-on-one format can be especially helpful for dogs who need structure, focused attention, or support with specific challenges.

PERSONALIZED ATTENTION

Private training allows each session to focus on your dog’s unique needs, temperament, and learning style instead of following a general group-class format.

FOCUSED LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

Dogs who struggle around other dogs, people, or busy surroundings may benefit from a quieter, more controlled setting where they can learn with fewer distractions.

BETTER OWNER GUIDANCE

Working directly with a professional trainer gives owners immediate feedback on handling, timing, reinforcement, and communication.

BEHAVIOR SUPPORT

Private lessons can help address specific issues such as leash reactivity, anxiety, fearfulness, aggression, sound sensitivity, or difficulty focusing.

LONG-TERM PROGRESS

Consistent practice between lessons helps reinforce what your dog learns and gives owners the tools to maintain better behavior at home.

Our Private Training Services

In-home training brings professional instruction directly to your Syracuse home. Dogs learn commands in the environment where they spend most of their time, which helps skills transfer naturally to daily life.

Off Leash K9 Training, Syracuse offers two in-home programs:

In-Home Basic Obedience is a 4-lesson program covering come, sit, extended sit, down, extended down, place, extended place, out, off, and loose leash walking. Training equipment is included with this program.

In-Home Basic & Advanced is an 8-lesson program that builds on basic commands and adds advanced skills such as heel, watch, through, front, stand, and advanced door manners.

Syracuse area clients should contact the business before purchasing to confirm whether their location falls within the in-home service area.

Board & Train Programs

Board and train is residential training where your dog lives with a professional trainer in their home for the duration of the program. This immersive approach provides consistent structure, repetition, and practice based on the selected package.

Programs range from 1 week to 3 weeks depending on your dog’s needs and training goals. Every board & train program includes an owner turnover session where you learn exactly what your dog learned and how to maintain those skills at home.

Board & train works well for dogs who need intensive focus on obedience, manners, or distraction work. It also benefits owners who may have limited time for multiple weekly training sessions but want comprehensive results.

Our Private Training Process

Step 1: Initial Assessment

Every training program begins with understanding your dog. The trainer evaluates your dog’s current behavior, age, and specific challenges. You discuss your training goals, lifestyle, and what you want to achieve. This assessment determines which program is the best fit, whether that means private lessons, board & train, or a specialized program for behavioral issues.

Step 2: Program Selection

Based on the assessment, the trainer can help recommend a program that fits your dog’s age, behavior, and training goals. Some owners may prefer in-home lessons, while others may choose facility-based private lessons, puppy training, board and train, Basic Marker Mastery™, or a specialized program for reactivity, fearfulness, or aggression.

Step 3: Professional Training Implementation

Training begins with structured sessions based on the selected program. Commands are introduced in a clear progression, from foundational skills to more advanced behaviors when appropriate. Board and train programs include consistent practice while the dog lives with a trainer, while private lesson clients work with the trainer during sessions and continue practicing between appointments.

Step 4: Owner Education and Ongoing Support

Training success depends on what happens after the program ends. Board and train programs include an owner turnover session, with the length varying by package. During this session, the trainer explains what your dog learned, how to handle your dog, and how to reinforce the training at home.

Syracuse

We brought our dog Mocha to off leash when we just couldn’t get her to listen. Josh was constantly in contact with us and eased any concerns we had. 2 weeks  later we had a totally new dog on our hands. She was still the playful goofy pup she has always been but now she listens. She does get distracted by other dogs but will sit and pay attention to me rather than running and jumping. We have been able to take her out in public and our friends and family have raved about how well behaved she is now!

We had an outstanding experience with our trainer Sam, from Off Leash K9.  She was wonderful with our 2 1/2 year old Golden Doodle… and the results are amazing!   She spent two weeks at Sam’s home where she received lots of love and was transformed to a perfectly behaved dog we are so proud of!  It’s been almost two months and she is a good as ever.  I cannot say enough good things about how happy we are with the experience and results.  I would recommend to anyone!
