Dog: Ryder
Breed: Australian Shepherd, Husky, and Rottweiler mix
Age: 2 years old
Program: 2-Week Board and Train
Trainer: Trey
Main Issues: High energy, stubborn behavior, hyper-fixation, pulling, overexcitement with guests
Outcome: Better leash manners, improved focus, stronger obedience, and off-leash progress
The Challenge
Ryder had a lot of love to give, but his energy and intensity made everyday situations difficult. He would hyper-fixate on things, pull on walks, and become extremely excited when people came to the house.
Before training, Ryder struggled with:
- Pulling on leash
- Hyper-fixating on distractions
- Going over threshold when guests arrived
- Stubborn behavior
- High energy
- Limited control in public settings
His family wanted better handling skills, more reliable obedience, and confidence in situations that used to feel overwhelming.
The Training Approach
Ryder completed a structured 2-Week Board and Train focused on obedience, leash manners, public behavior, and helping his owners understand how to guide him at home.
What training focused on:
- Building better leash manners
- Improving heel and public control
- Reducing hyper-fixation around distractions
- Creating clearer communication with Ryder
- Strengthening obedience and follow-through
- Helping the family manage excitement when people come over
Trey also provided daily updates, videos, and clear communication so Ryder’s family felt informed and confident throughout the program.
The Results
By the end of training, Ryder made major progress that surprised his family.
What improved:
- Ryder could walk in heel in public places
- Leash pulling improved significantly
- Focus and obedience became more reliable
- His family learned how to handle exciting situations
- Off-leash potential improved
- His 9-year-old owner was able to walk him at heel
One of the biggest wins was seeing Ryder walk calmly through Lowe’s in heel, then later walking up and down the street with the family’s son without pulling.
Owner Reflection
Ryder’s family shared that Trey’s communication, daily updates, and care made the experience feel reassuring from start to finish. They were amazed by Ryder’s progress and grateful for the confidence training gave them, especially seeing their son walk Ryder successfully for the first time.
